Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is transmitted directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its response. Harney County Criminal History does not retain or record those query terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be kept for the time needed to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It remains internal unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our systems may automatically receive basic technical information whenever a visitor opens a page:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Small files known as cookies help measure traffic patterns, including popular pages and points where visits end. Analytics providers combine that activity into reports. A browser can reject cookies, although disabling them may change how certain site functions work.
What We Do With This Data
- Operating, maintaining, and improving page performance
- Routing a submitted query to the partner that provides the search
- Measuring which material visitors use most often
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
This site neither maintains nor sells a database of personal criminal-record information. Its pages explain how to request Harney County records from the sheriff, Oregon courts, Oregon State Police CJIS, and Oregon Sex Offender Online Search. This is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the embedded search tools. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and disclosure rules apply to information submitted through a tool. Those choices are outside our control, so review the provider's policy before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Harney County Sheriff's Office, Oregon courts, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or commercial search services. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's privacy policy controls. Check those terms before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may use activity across multiple websites to select ads. Their systems conduct that tracking under their own policies.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal information is not sold. It may nevertheless be disclosed to:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable safeguards are used for information within our control. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, however, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. Information shown to have come from a minor will be removed when identified.
Your Data Rights
Rights vary with residence and governing law. Oregon's Unlawful Trade Practices Act, ORS 646.605 through 646.656, and other applicable privacy or consumer-protection laws may provide added protections. Subject to legal limits, a visitor may:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
